The Season of Gratitude

Now that the holidays are over, you might notice yourself in a battle with children who are used to parties, gifts, vacation and family. Not only do you have to fight to reestablish your former routines, but now you’re forced to deal with what might be increased material desires and misplaced priorities when it ocmes to school, chores or family responsibilities.

It is during this time that you can talk with your children about gratitude. Having spent the last month talking about celebrating the birth of Jesus, it is now the season to be thankful for all that He has given us.

Practical Steps:

Teaching your children how to experience and express gratitude starts by showing them how you do it. Take time to talk as a family about what you’re thankful for.

If you child persists in asking for more toys or gifts, remind him or her that God has given us everything we need and that what we have He wants us to enjoy, but that we don’t need more.

If you child is reluctant to return ot the normal routines, remind him or her that God wants us to make good use of our time and that everyday is a gift we should be thankful for.

The important thing is to refocus a child’s priorities from resenting the end of the holidays to expressing gratitude for the gifts received.

Starting the New Year off Right!

We had such a great Advent season! I want to thank everyone who served with the children, prayed for the children, or even just loved on the children the past month as they celebrated the birth of Christ.

Our children heard the gospel all throughout the month and really caught on to the excitement and true meaning behind the holiday. Thanks for making that possible! Now as we look forward, we have some great things planned for the coming months!

The 2&3’s class is learning about why We Love Jesus. Their focus is on worship and what it means to love Jesus. They are looking at the story of the wise men.

The 4&5’s are back to the Old Testament and learning the story of Jacob & Esau. They are learning about Jacob’s sin and God’s forgiveness. They are learning about what it looks like when God uses his people for special things, despite their sins.

The elementary room is picking back up with their Names of God series and learning what the Bible reveals about God’s worth and character through His names. Each week, the elementary students continue to hear the gospel presented.

Please pray for these children as we labor to make God known and famous in their lives!
